Before you come to school, you must:

4. Report to the Auditorium by 9am. Be ready with writing material.

The briefing is about your duty on the day of the AYG Torch Relay (29June, 1st day of school).

Painting YOG Corner 18June2009

YOGAs coming in tomorrow MORNING (18June) to paint the YOG corner,
please report at 8AM.

This is because we were unable to buy the black paint needed for the rest of the background-the shop had already closed when we went after packing up today-so we will need to buy the black paint tomorrow instead.

In other news...
YOGAs who were preparing and painting the YOG wall today, good job!
I was glad to see Shiting and Nina working to see which designs looked good, Mun Yee and Meijia eager to show off their muscles and the morning guys (Mun Tat, Kesh, Santhosh and Zul Afiq) quietly supporting.

Nazira, Amirah, Zhi Han, Stella, Si Zhen, Kesh, Mun Tat and Aravin, you braved the afternoon heat to complete most of the letterings. Hope you have a good rest, especially those who are painting tomorrow too.

Preparation of AYG Cultural Booth in School

YOGAs,
We need to create the atmosphere of Bahraini culture in CSS too for the duration of AYG, so we need to put in some creativity to work.

That's what the document "Preparation of Booth" under Google Docs sharing is for. But at the moment, I think I only see 2 names. :\

What we will be doing during this period (22-25June) would be:
1. putting up the information onto the notice boards on our YOG corner (wall outside the library)
2. decorating the boards with more of a Bahraini flava
3. preparing quizzes for Commonwealthians about Bahrain and the AYG to knock out their brains with
4. wrapping special souvenir sweeties for those who participate in the quizzes
5. learning the original CSS cheers by heart to get some school spirit up

We want the WHOLE CSS to pass by our YOG corner and have a visual treat, pique their curiousity about AYG and Bahrain and most importantly, show them the excellence of spirit that should be in the soul of the CSS YOGAs.

How's that, YOGAs? Just 2 people to create all of this, or are all you YOGAs going to pull together as a band of people who stand out in their enthusiasm?

Let's see more names down on the "Preparation of Booth" list and YOGAs coming in fuller force during this period.

Painting of Wall of YOG Corner

Hi YOGAs,
First of all, I'm glad to see some of the YOGAs dedicating themselves to the painting of the YOG corner in school. But at the last look of the whole wall, together with the preparations before, I think we need more people.

So for each session, I will need at least 8 people in all. If you have not done ANYTHING related to AYG this whole time or since the holidays started, now is the time.

Never mind if you have signed up to do presenting, etc., as long as you are free on 17 and/or 18 June, come down to help. Please put your names down on the Google Docs I have shared with you.
If there is no more space, come down anyway. The number 8 is only a gauge.

OK, for those who are coming down, you will need to:
1. come in your old, worn school t-shirts (if they are mostly new, report in sch PE t-shirt, bring an old old home t-shirt which you don't mind dirtying to change into)
2. wear PE shorts to paint in (you don't want to dirty your sch shorts/pants/skirts)
3. bring an apron if you have one
4. rags for cleaning
5. old newspapers (one full day's worth, if you can carry more, even better)
6. water & $ for makan

Culminating at the AYG Games Village (Swissôtel the Stamford, Singapore), Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan will complete the 1st leg of the Torch Relay.

The 2nd leg of the relay has been dubbed the School Leg, which will coincide with the AYG Opening Ceremony taking place on 29 June.
The 45 schools that will be taking part in this leg mirror the 45 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competing at the Games. Three torch bearers will be selected per school, comprising principals, teachers, students and parents & commonwealth sec is one of them!

Similarly divided into three groups (of 15 schools each) according to the Olympic values, these schools will each run a relay within its compound. At the same time, they will be showcasing their own sporting history, as well as the culture of their twinning country for the AYG.
The three torches will then converge at the Singapore Indoor Stadium for the AYG Opening Ceremony, where they will be used to ignite the AYG Flame, welcoming the young athletes from all over Asia.

AYG Theme Song

Asia’s Youth, Our Future

Chorus
This is the time, This is the moment
We believe our dreams will come true
Hand in hand
We strive to do our best

Verse 1
This world that we share
This world that we all must care
We can do so much if we try, we try
When we put our hearts as one
We can do things never done
Hand in hand together no mountain’s too high

(Chorus)

Verse 2
Our future is bright
The time dreams take flight
Our destiny’s in our hands, in our hands
There is much we can achieve
If we only we believe
With friendship and faith together we can

(Chorus)

Singing 'Asia's Youth, Our Future'

Just like sports, music has the efficacious nature of bringing people together. The AYG would not be a celebration of youth, sports and learning without a theme song.

Presented with the honour of singing their hearts out for Asia are Singapore's very own youths - Nathan Hartono and Lian Kim Selby, both 18.

The pair will sing the song titling the theme of the AYG - 'Asia's Youth, Our Future,' at the official opening of the Games, on 29 June 2009.

The JC 2 students and, incidentally, classmates from Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) were understandably thrilled when the opportunity knocked on their door.

"It means a lot to me because Singapore's hosting the AYG for the very first time, bringing so many countries from all over Asia together...and to be an ambassador for Singapore, to be part of something of this size, it is an honour," said Nathan Hartono, a young artiste who also performed at the Singapore National Day Parade 2008.

Friends since they were 13, Nathan and Lian Kim admit that it's definitely a big plus that they are singing with someone they're so familiar with.

"Being in the same class meant that we could use the break times in between classes to rehearse the song together," laughs Nathan, a young artiste signed on to Music and Movement.

Lian Kim, the other half of the duo, was last seen singing and emceeing at ChildAid 2007 - a gig she auditioned for after seeing her friend Nathan perform the previous year.
"I feel very honoured and privileged to be one of the two people chosen to do it - the first thing I thought of was…oh my goodness, why me? I feel very blessed to be given this opportunity to sing at the AYG."

Imbibing the Olympic sporting values of excellence, friendship and respect, the AYG theme song essentially highlights the importance of youths to the world.

Nathan, our young vocalist, points out the positive impact of sports: "In the midst of today's global economic crisis…when it comes to sports you'll just forget about all that and just cheer your lungs out…it's great to see everyone just cheering on a common passion."

When asked what message she hopes to convey to the youths competing in the AYG, Lian Kim said: "I think the most important thing is that you feel a passion for what you do…because passion is really what drives you to want to keep doing what you do, not for the sake of doing it or because you're forced to do it but because you feel very deeply for what you're doing."

The day of the recording, we found out that our vocalists had an exam the next morning. Now, how's that for passion?

Presented with the honour of singing their hearts out for Asia are Singapore's very own youths singing their hearts for Asia - Nathan Hartono and Selby Lian Kim, both 18.

For the Editors

Editors (Those working on the Bahrain Write-Up),

If you're at a loss on the similarities between S'pore and Bahrain, here are some ideas:
1. Bahrain has hosted Formula One races too even though it is not a very big nation like S'pore.
2. Bahrain and Singapore are both island countries.
3. Bahrain and Singapore both have limited water resources (Look at what both countries are doing to solve this problem)

Presenters for Booth at AYG village and school

Presenters,

You need to do your own personal research on:
1. the history of Bahrain
2. what Bahrain is like today
3. the Bahraini traditions
4. what the Bahraini like to do as their pasttimes (hobbies)
5. similarities between Singapore and Bahrain
